Clay Nelson's Life Balance CD: A Review

If there is a tool that can teach me, edify me or simplify my life, I try to get my hands on it. Thanks to a special site, I was able to get a copy of Clay Nelson's Life Balance. Clay Nelson is a business and life coach. He has a radio show that airs every Wednesday at 2:00 PM Pacific time. His company's mission statment targets what every person wants.

What does every person want out of life?
Everyone wants to balance three key elements of life.
1. Their mission statement says they are committed to putting fun in your life.
2. They want to help you balance your family time.
3. They want you to achieve financial freedom in your personal and family life.

The Getting Started Series: Having a Say in How Your Life Turns Out
This CD is a three disc set. The first disc helps you create your purpose. After listening to his CD, I realized why people are always chasing the next big achievement (an expensive car, a promotion, a spouse), while being evaded by true happiness and fulfillment.

The second disc covers an important topic that I've blogged about often. The disc is a guide to help fear serve you. Many people never succeed because they never try. Why don't they try? They let fear cripple them. He gives several tools to help you overcome your fears. Obviously, I can't elaborate here. I'd be given away his information!

The third disc is about commitment. This is a very important aspect to any goals. How could you achieve your goals if you're not committed to the plan? All of the three goals of the mission statement can be achieved, just by the simple step act of being committed. Don't know how that can be done? Well, you have to listen to the tapes!

I want to add that I've read many self help books by well known authors. I've learned many things from each one. Clay Nelson's CDs reminded me of one very important promise I had made to myself back when I had my first child. It is a simple idea, that for many reasons is hard to implement. The easiest thing that you can do to impact anyone's life is to live in the present.

What does living in the present mean?
It means that when you are at work at a meeting, you are to particpate body, mind and soul. In the same manner, when you are at home and your 3 year old duaghter asks you to sit down for a tea party...you experience the tea party. You sit down, make small talk, follow her instructions and create a memory. Take in the whole moment. Remember the sweet sound of her voice, the way her curls touch her cheek, the way she is giddy when she says your name, the scent of the room.

After listening to these tapes, I have tried to live in the present with my children. I've put them to bed and watched them drift off to sleep. I've listened to my teens tell me about the latest youtube.com spoof and stopped working to devote my full attention to them. All the while, recording the twinkle in their eye and the hearty careless laughter of youth.

I'd like to say one thing to Clay Nelson. Thank you for reminding me that tomorrow is not promised to anyone.

These Are the Rehab Centers Lohan, Spears and Ritchie Attend

Substance abuse is not a joke. It's a serious problem that has dire circumstances. People that are struggling with life crippling addictions are not just runing their lives. They also effect all the their loved ones, friends and people they come in contact with.

Amy Whinehouse's song pretty much tells it the way most substance abusers feel about drug rehab facilities. Then again, most people don't have the ability to attend centers like Cliffside Malibu. Celebs like the big three trouble magnets above, whine about going to deal with their unresolved issues. Have they seen what everyday people have to deal with. The picture above shows the pool on the premises. These centers are more like hotels and spas-going as far as offering facials, pedicures and manicures. You know, some how I think that if you are actually going through withdrawal from cocaine, heroine or alcohol-the last thing you'll care about is how you look.

Well, I guess when you're used to a lifestyle of this kind...anything else is unacceptable...

Looking for Information on Foreclosures?

Two days ago, there was a financial analyst speaking about the slump the real estate market is experiencing in many states. (It was on cable, I don't recall which channel). He explained how people are having a really hard time selling their properties and how they are having to work harder at getting buyers. I'm not surprised. Not long ago, I read an article on Yahoo about real estate agents that are offering plasma TVs as a bonus to buyers. Things have to be at an all time low, when people are trying to GIVE away such expensive incentives! Having such a bad real estate market leads many to an unsavorable end: foreclosure.

One of my closest freinds is a special education teacher. She has a two income household and are holding down two mortgages. She had tenants in one house, but they had a family crisis and moved out overnight. For several months, my friend and her husband paid two mortgages without financial strain. She is an excellent steward of the finances. Before the end of June, she was told her teaching position no longer existed. The program she taught in, had not produced sufficient numbers to continue to be funded. The program would be closed and she would be out of a job. That's when she felt the financial crunch of paying two mortgages. Their savings and emergency funds were being depleted. What would have happened if they had not been wise and saved? They would be in the same boat that many Americans are in now, fearing foreclosure.

After doing a search on Google for the term "foreclosure", I found very little help. One of the sites listed on the top of the search was a landing page for a product someone was selling. The other looked like a cleverly disguised "domain that was parked". Fortunately, there is a site that can explain the foreclosure process and the legal matters involved. The site is called GotTroubles.com. (Isn't that a clever name?) The site explains what the foreclosure process is like, helps you find an attorney and even provides resources. Learn about your rights and how you can deal with your lender.

Learn what you can do to help your situation. Foreclosure doesn't have to be the end of your credit. Learn how you can restore your credit rating and much more at GotTouble.com!

***For those of you that are wondering, my friend was just hired by another school. She will be starting in September. Unfortunately, she had to take a cut in pay that totaled over $20,000! This is what she told me. "Hey, having a job is better than not having one at all..."***

A Lighting Store that Takes PayPal!

LightingDirect.com is a website that sells every type of lighting anyone would want. They sell ceiling fans, chandeliers, lamps, accent lights and all kinds of outdoor lighting. Need sconces, path lighting, step lighting or deck/rail lights? You can find them here. Why do I recommend this website when you can go to a chain store and get inexpensive lighting? The answer is because that ligthing will cost you in the long run. I've purchased several lamps from three different popular chain stores and they didn't last 3 months. That's why I call them disposable lamps. (Thank goodness that I take those lamps to the metal scrap yard. I hate to think about how many of those lamps are filling up our landfills!)

One of my favorite features of this site is that they take paypal. Since most of my income comes through my paypal account, it is convenient for me. It takes 3-4 business days for a transfer to go from my paypal to my checking account. I bookmark every site that I come across that takes paypal. With 7 kids and 9 pets, something always needs to be replaced. The site takes all major credit cards, Google Checkout and Home Improvement Direct accounts. They also offer a $10.00 discount for all orders over $250.00 paid with billpay!

I just had my stairs redone in June, so step lighting is on my list of things I need to purchase. ( I also have the stairs stained.)
Here's a pitcure of what I mean. Why do I think it's necessary? Living in the middle of nowhere means you're always in the dark. Even when I use the outdoor lights, it's not enough. Several times, I've almost stepped on a snake. Then there's PePe LePeu (the skunk that lives on ou property). He loves to come out at night with his little family. I would hate to step on ome of them....

Yup, country life. Gotta love it.

Digg Meets Wikipedia: The Truth About Thoof

It's getting late. It seems like an eternity since I last saw him. I hear his footsteps getting closer. I quickly get up. As I get closer to the hallway, I hear him fumbling for the keys. He bursts through the door just as I reach him. I wonder how his day was? He loves to work, but sometimes I worry he doesn't play enough. You know, it's exhilirating and relaxing to throw a ball around. He's really busy with a "new project". That's all he seems to talk about.

Who is he? Well, the one and only Ian Clarke. He was one of the founders of Revver.com. He loves what he does and I get to watch him on TV now and then. He's been on several shows debating topics concerning the internet. He's also involved with several companies on the web. Yup, he's a visionary in that new frontier called the "world wide web". Along with visionaries like Ted Murphy and Dan Rua, he pushes the limits of what people believe can be done in the blogosphere. Imagine the surprise when he created a site where people could submit video content and get paid for it!

Back to his entrance. He sat down with his favorite dinner, lemon chicken. I watched him from the corner of my eye as I devoured my dinner. He started to talk about his desire to create a site where people could submit news stories while popularity would be reflected by the truth. I don't know who this Truth person is, but he sure does talk about him a lot. Often, while he pounds the keys late at night-he smiles while talking about his new project and "The Truth". Quite frankly, I was getting a little jealous of "The Truth".

After he listened to some music, listened to his messages and checked his email-he sat down and started speaking about "The Truth". Why are adults so obsessed with this "Truth" and what would I have to do to get him focused on ME! I walked over to the corner and picked up my favorite toy. As he sat in front of the computer screen, hands outstetched on the keyboard-I made my way over to him. Softly, I put my head under his arm and gave him my saddest, heart wrenching, pitiful look. He looked at me and shared his dilema about finding a name for his "new project". Here we go again. With the toy gripped between my teeth, I decided to beat him to it

"Thoof....Thoof......Thoof" I barked.

"That's it!" He exclaimed.

"Thoof will be the name for this new site that will give the whole truth about news and information shaping the world."

Who am I? My name is Dillon. Here I am with one of my favorite toys!

Here are some things that have been said about Truth:

George Orwell said:
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.

Stephen King:
Fiction is the truth inside the lie.

There. Now you know all about us. Be sure to visit Thoof and tell my Daddy how cute I am!

*******************************************************
Thoof.com is a site that combines the ideas behind Digg.com (minus the mob mentality) and wikipedia. Anyone can open an account and submit content. Each URL is given a title and description by the submitter. The community can change the title and description by adding or substracting to it (this is called making an improvement). That aspect resembles wikipedia. Ultimately, the decision as to whether the improvement is made or not depends on the community. To have your readers particpate in the content you've submitted, you simply oplace a ThoofRank buttin on the bottom of your post. The rank is a measurement of how interesting a story is to readers with interests in common with the story. The most creative part is that the site remembers what content you found interesting. When someone submits a story that is similar to the ones you clicked, it will show up on your page. This site will produce personalized news! If you don't want to read the news story, you can hide the story or flag it as "not interesting".

Visit the site and open an account. This site has the potential to send you lots of traffic. Imagine if you would have been one of the first users of digg. My suggestion is that you start "thoofing" right way!

New York Bed and Breakfast

When I first came across this site, I was determined to book a night at a New York Bed and Breakfast. I didn't know that bed and breakfasts existed in NYC. I know, I know...pretty naive. Everyone (including me) always focuses on the hotels. Well, I saw a few inns that I wanted to visit. My plan was to stay there after The Jonas Brothers Concert on August 6th. That day, my car broke down. My mini-van was in the shop and the other car was out of commission. Long story short, there weren't any cars available for rental. This was MY birthday gift for The Diva, so instead of staying at the Bed and Breakfast, I rented a limo to take us to the concert. She had a good time and was thrilled to meet the guys...again.

I'm taking The Diva to see B5 in September, so I plan to stay at one of the beautiful inns NYC offers. Hey, you only live once and I'm really sick. I don't know what I have, but deep down inside...I know it's serious. Anyway, I wanted to share a picture of one of the inns. My favorite (pictured above) has a courtyard with a garden. The inn is called Rooms to Let located at 83 Horatio St, New York, NY 10014-1518. ILoveInns.com website makes it easy for you to browse through all the different inns. It contains pictures of the different inns with all the information you need to book a room. You can follow the links to each inns' website. You can also buy gift certificates that can be used at any of the inns. By the way, they have a catalog for sale that can give you additional savings. Visit the site for more info!

Have Your Books Delivered to Your Mailbox!

Services like Netflix are appealing to busy families, especially when both adults are working full time jobs. In just seconds you can order your entertainment. Now, you can order your books with the same ease. BooksFree.com is a monthly book subscription. To be able to get a clear picture of the service, I was given a free one month subscription. The following is my review of BooksFree.com

BooksFree.com is similar to Netflix. Through their site, you can pay for a monthly subscription service to receive paperbacks or audiobooks. You can choose from over 79,800 paperback books or 18,000 audiobooks. There are five different plans for the paperback subscription. The basic plan allows you to rent 2 books at a time. With the basic membership, both books must be returned at the same time. The other plans allow you to send a book back and rent another, while keeping the other selection too. Plans range from the basic plan starting at $9.99 (for 2 books at a time) to $37.99 (to rent 12 books at a time).

Registering with the site was very easy. Once you choose your plan and enter the appropriate billing information you can start adding titles to your queue. It is important that you keep your queue full of new selections. That way, as soon as you return one selection-the next title will be shipped. Overall, the site is user-friendly and self explanatory.

After selecting my titles, I received the titles in a white plastic sack. I have to admit I was afraid of opening it. Why? I wasn't sure how I was going to reurn it. I figured I should open it, that way I could tell mmy readers what to expect. After carefully opening the package, I found they had enclosed a plastic sack to return the books! They also sent a bookmark. I ordered two books. One looked new and the other was a little worn. What if you decide to keep the books? You can go on the site, click on the link that says "Keep a Book" and follow the prompts.

In conclusion, I think this is a great service that will save you time. It solves the problem of having books that end up collecting dust...

Freeze It: Pain Relief and a Sleeping Aid!

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to test a new product and give my honest opinion. Before I go into the product review, I need to explain something. I've been very ill since April. The antibiotics that I was prescribed have not cured my ear infection. The steroids have not reduced the inflammation I have on my sternum. The past couple of weeks, I've been dealing with fevers, aches and pains and dizzy spells. I called my doctor in July and I was given an appointment for August 14! I'm lucky that I have a high tolerance for pain (I have given birth to 5 children and I raise two others, you know). Anyway, I received a package from PayPerPost and it contained a product called Freeze It. It came in handy. I was using Blue Ice and Ben Gay for the aches and pains, which are similar products. Here's what I have to say about Freeze It!

What was my experience with FREEZE IT?
The first thing I noticed was the way it felt. It was slimy or oily. Freeze It went on like lotion. The next thing you notice is the scent. It doesn't smell like medicine. It is really strong and is effective especially if you are suffering from a cold. On top of all that's going wrong, my allergies are driving me crazy. I noticed the penetrating vapor cleared my nasal passages right away. Once I put it on, it started working right away. You can feel it heating up your muscles. It actually felt like a massage. After I used the gel, I was able to lay down and fell asleep without all the discomfort I was feeling. I actually slept better than I had in several weeks.

What makes Freeze It different from similar products?
Freeze It is made with natural ingredients. It consists of Aloe, Vitamin E and ILEX (am extract from a South American holly shrub). It also contains menthol and camphor for pain relief. Unlike other products, it didn't dry out my skin. They also come in a roll on form. As far as I know, there aren't other products like that.

Today I was telling my younger sister about Freeze It. She was diagnosed with MS last year. (My doctor will be running tests to rule that out as a possible cause of my symptoms.) I was explaining the great results I had with the product. A product that helps you sleep better without medicating you! That alone is worth the $9.99 price tag!

What I Learned From Our Mini-Vacation

This year, we spent the 4th of July at a hotel. Why? Little One's father booked two days at a hotel near Six Flags in NJ. He did this for two reasons. The first was that July 6 was The Diva's birthday. She turned 14! The second reason was that The Jonas Brothers, her favorite band was having a concert at Six Flags on the 5th. That would be her birthday present. Let's just say, it was an experience I will NEVER forget.

What did I learn from the whole experience?
1. For a family of 8, it is twice as expensive for a stay in a hotel. He paid $762. for two hotel rooms for two days.
2. If I hadn't brought a cooler with drinks, we would have spent a fortune. I also packed a duffle bag with snacks and fruits. The food bill can be HUGE! Luckily, breakfast was included.
3. The hotel stay came with several complementary tickets for Six Flags. The rest had to be purchased separately. Group discounts should be an option in the future.
4. Always, ALWAYS bring the laptop. The kids had to wait to use the ONE computer the hotel had.
5. Make sure amenities include: cable, pool, hot tub, exercise room and internet access.

The next trip he's planning is to Walt Disney World. The Little One can identify the Disney Castle even if it's just the outline or shadow. He wants to go and he makes sure he tells his father EVERYTIME Disney Channel gives the commercial.

One excellent option that I'm looking into is MoreMouse.com. Through this site, one can get a great deal on an Orlando vacation rental. You can rent a townhouse, home with a pool or a condo. This may be just the prefect solution for my huge family. I don't even want to know how much it would cost us to rent two hotel rooms for a week. Then you have the theme park tickets. The Princess is an animal lover and she wants to go to Sea World. You know we HAVE to rent a minivan... I can tell you one thing. If I can't afford to pay for at least the rooms, and the tickets-I'm not going. He can take the baby all by himself.

Geez, I better get blogging. I have half of the $1670. to repair the minivan and I have back to school shopping coming up. I have to replace 4 of the kid's eye glass precriptions. You know I'll be very, very busy....

Vestopia: Learn to Invest by Watching the Pros

ShareBuilder, e*trade and Ameritrade are sites that enable a person to buy stock. Most of you are familiar with these sites, because they're constantly being covered by the A-List personal finance bloggers. But what if you're a novice at buying and trading stocks? What if you want to invest, but you're nervous about doing it on your own? You simply don't have the time to do the research or don't even know where to begin? Vestopia may be the solution.

What is Vestopia?
Vestopia is a site created to help the novice make sound investments by watching professionals. This site will help you learn how to invest by example.

How does Vestopia work?
As a member, you decide the investment strategy that is best for you. After you decide what your goals are, you find an investment director that exemplifies that. How can you choose the right investment director? You can read their bio, their blog and examine their investment portfolio to make an informed decision. The investment directors use their own money, so you know that they are going to be cautious with their decisions. The stats for their investment portfolios are displayed in real time. What does that mean to you? You can mimic their actions and benefit from their knowledge.

Visit the Vestopia blog where the investment directors share their thoughts. You can add your input to the conversation. Through the blog, you can stay informed of what the other investment directors are doing.

I'm going to test this site further. I'm interested in seeing the results. In theory, it sounds like a great idea. Let's see if it works for a novice like me...

We missed our LCD Monitor

Sometimes you get so accustomed to your surroundings, you take them for granted. That was what happened to me this week. The children and I went to six flags in NJ. We stayed at The Best Western and they had one computer! My main computer has a widescreen LCD monitor, similar to this viewsonic monitor. (If you follow the link, you will see some excellent prices.) It wasn't until I saw the computer at the hotel, that I realized the difference. (I'm sure you're wondering why I didn't bring my laptop. Well, I figured...keeping track of 6 kids and all the luggage would be more than a handful.) Not only is the screen wide and narrlow, but you also save space on your desk.

What's your take? We play DVDs on the computer, to entertain The Little One. Our computer is much more than a task master for work or for school. With the right monitor, many people may even give up their TVs!
