Going Back to School

After several years of being a work at home mom to 7 kids, I took the steps to go back to school.  My children are much older now.  My three youngest children are 16, 12 and 9.  It is a lot easier to go to school, get my work done and study.  I love working from home, but having a marketing degree means I earn $125,000. annually providing SEO services .  That's a lot more than I earn now.  I'm willing to commute to a job, even relocate for that annual salary.

My younger sister advised me to look into taking online courses.  She has been taking several courses a semester from her local college through the internet.  She has MS so it's a little difficult for her to get around, so online college is a perfect fit.  Unfortunately, I couldn't find a place that offered internet courses for my major.  So, I will be attending school in January.  They will be accepting the credits I earned previously so it shouldn't take me too long to finish.  The weird part is that I will be attending the same school as my son.  I am going to try to not take a class with my son because I am very competitive.  I don't want to be in that type of situation with him.  By the way, my daughter is also attending college.  However, she is in Virginia.  She wanted to be close to DC to participate in all the conferences on sustainable energy and environmental engineering (especially all the protests advocating clean energy, renewable energy and human civil liberties) .

I can tell you I was surprised to find all the different subjects you can study online.  There is even an enrolled agent ethics course.    Anything that can help you increase your income without taking up a lot of time, resources and money (extra babysitting, transportation, food, etc) is definitely worthwhile.  As always be sure that you do your research.  You don't want to put a strain on your finances.  Luckily, this particular course to help you fulfill your agent continuing education requirements can be paid through debit cards, paypal, Google, Amazon and even your credit card either by internet or phone.  (You know I don't advocate charging even if it is for education purposes).  Courses are delivered directly through the website.  PDFs can also be purchased.  If you take 24 hours annually you will meet the 72 hours in 3 years IRS requirement.

I'll be in school a lot longer than 24 hours, but it will be worth it in the end.  If everything goes well, in five years I'll be working in NYC, my house will be paid off and my 12 year old will be a senior in HS.  That's my five year plan.  What's yours?  Feel free to share in the comments...
